Protect What You Love: Wildfire Mitigation
Wildfire is a risk in Colorado, in almost every neighborhood. We all saw what happened with the Marshall Fire in Boulder County. Protecting your property and the people you love can be as simple as a weekend spent clearing yard debris away from your home. In this video, the story of a homeowner in Roxborough Park. If you'd like to know how to get started with home mitigation, check out this handy guide: bit.ly/3Wgqpfk

Would you know where to go and what to do if there was an emergency in your neighborhood? Are you signed up for emergency alerts? Recently, West Metro, in partnership with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Douglas County Emergency Management, and the Roxborough Park Firewise program, put on an evacuation drill for the community. Residents who participated were able to practice- in real time-...

This is the tail (tale) of a kitten who's used up at least one of his nine lives. After four days in drain pipe, and a 911 call, he was rescued by the crew with West Metro Engine 3, a Lakewood Animal Control Officer, and a couple of caring residents. #catdistributionsystem #westmetrofirerescue "Whatever it takes to serve." website: www.westmetrofire.org Facebook: WestMetroFireRescu...

Firefighting can be a challenging but rewarding career. For many, it's a source of personal growth, strength, and resiliency. And an opportunity to encourage others to consider the fire service through being a role model. If you have a passion to serve your community, and help others as a member of a strong team- West Metro is hiring firefighters. Applications are open through July 21, 2024: ww...
Cold & Fast: Swift Water Rescue

Ice cold and moving fast. Colorado's streams and rivers can be deceptive. They may look like a nice place to cool off and relax, but swift water is dangerous, unless you're prepared. Thank you for your service sir appreciate it
One of the towns in my area has no restrictions on fireworks. People do huge displays right in their own front yards. And there is never a fire emergency.
Thank you for your service
Voice sounds robotic. Interesting.
It's actually a real person. The crews call the voice "Lola"- short for locution system.
Yeah thats a red flag for me
I love watching these videos. Do you have continuous training?
We do a lot of training. District wide organized training - usually at our training center- and, company officers often hold trainings of their own at the fire station. Station 8 is our dive team station, so they have even more training that's required each year for the firefighters to be certified as Public Safety Divers. After firefighters graduate from Academy, they are required to complete task books on each of the apparatus- engine, tower, medic (ambulance). So, if a newer firefighter is working at a station, each crew member might work with the newer firefighter to help get items checked off, and make sure that they're mastering the skills. This is a profession where there's always something new to learn and practice.

Good morning from the Great State of Texas. I like this tender. I do have a couple of question on the design of this truck. Why are there no 1.75 preconnects or a dead lay on this tender and why 2- 2.5 intakes instead of a 4 inch with a siamese adapter? Thank you
Our tactical tender is an anomaly and designed specifically for our response model. We are a full-time paid department and this tender is cross-staffed at a firehouse with 4 dedicated FF’s. It has a 4-door cab so the whole crew can jump over to it and all respond as a water supply group for tender operations and water shuttles. There will always be a Type 1 engine on scene with this tender for fire attack. The crew also has the option to split the crew if they had to and take 2 and 2 or 3 and 1 and respond in tandem with E6 (Engine 6) and TT6 (Tactical Tender 6). It is a 2,000 gallon tank and 750 gpm pump. There is a 2.5” pre-connect crosslay (behind the netting) that could be used for an offensive exterior or defensive attack, but mainly used as a quick lay to supply an engine or nursing operation. No 1.75” as its purpose is more water supply and for wildland firefighting than initial attack on a structure or vehicle fire. As far as the intakes, the 3” fill hose is easier to handle for one person than a 4” or larger hose and for volume going into the 6-way baffled tank and more inlet control with valves at the back of the truck.
@@WestMetroFire Ok thank you for answering my questions. Now, I understand your departments perspective. Be safe and have a good day.
How do i take an emt class
It depends on where you live. Here in Colorado, EMT B (basic) is offered by several community colleges.
What happens if you lose a mannequin? Has that ever happened before?
We haven't lost one yet. The instructors make sure to anchor them so they don't float downstream. And, they're pretty heavy.
@WestMetroFire a team so thorough with their job they don't even lose the training tools, reassuring news! I love learning about all that you all do to help the community. Thanks for responding, putting in that effort on the job, and for having sources like this so the rest of us can learn!
Is this a wet system or a dry system
It's a standpipe system in one of our training buildings. It is connected to a water source.
🔥 Thank you for protecting all the people who lives in the West Metro Fire Rescue area!! ❤ #davesandersstepdaughter 🚒
Good man
This is the best fire department video I have ever seen! Excellent work on the video and nice job by these firefighters!
Hi 👋
1st
This is my uncle
Are all west Metro engines BLS?
We have a paramedic on board every apparatus. In this case, Marina is the tailboarder and is an EMT. On that particular Engine 3 crew, the engineer and the officer are both paramedics. On some crews, everyone on board the engine is a paramedic. All West Metro EMTs are sent to paramedic school on a rotating basis. Generally, about two years after graduation from academy.
That's a very nice fire house. I've seen worse.
Keep up the good work from wv
I think I saw a West Colfax Legend
I love DOGO’S good job west metro
Training room 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Interesting here in NY we don’t put fathers and son or brothers on the same shift let alone the same company
Hi Jerry: not a permanent assignment. Jake was doing his tower task book at Station 8. All new firefighters have task books for each apparatus and will be assigned a station to complete that task book.

Hopefully ill make it into the fire academy soon .
Cool satisfying video!
I served as a Volunteer firefighter here with the B.C.F.D. in the late 80s did go out on a few calls as well as got certified in Fireman One state Fire Fighter Academy in N.M.. I really enjoyed being a firefighter then and learning so much about fire suppression. I served for a year and half . I also enjoyed of course putting the wet stuff on the hot stuff lol. I personally liked the segment of this video about the Father son relationship and the son following dads foot steps in firefighting. Before being a Volunteer firefighter? I worked in the EMS field in Massachusetts in Revere and Salem . Anyway thanks guys for the video . I enjoy watching these . It's great stuff indeed. 👍
A neighbor this past weekend suffered a cardiac arrest and it was the first time I'd seen a Lucas device used in person on a real patient (after seeing it several times on TV). Sadly the medics couldn't resuscitate him. It was a haunting image...
What a great idea. She seems perfect for the job and so beautiful. Makes me miss my Irish ❤
Thank you for posting this. What a wonderful friend for the fire station. My dad is a retired Chief from Aurora fire department. He was very impacted by all the tragedy he saw and all those guys I'm sure had a tough time. A dog like Remy would have helped the whole station have a calm and healing atmosphere.
Dust Devil it's a Real thing 🤔
Actually- it's a smoke whirl.
What is that?
Fires often create their own weather- even smaller fires like this burn. A smoke whirl is a spinning vortex column of ascending hot air and gases rising from a fire and carrying aloft smoke and debris. Sometimes these whirls can also carry fire, in which case they’re called fire whirls. These whirls can range in size from less than one foot to over 500 feet in diameter, and large fire whirls can have the intensity of a small tornado.

We get those in our front stoop all of the time. We have wood floors... IYKTYK
Are fire tornadoes technically still tornadoes?
A good question for a meteorologist.
As a weather enthusiast I would say yes but that is definitely a challenging question
Some people say they are some people say they aren't. I'm not a professional but studied weather for four years now.
Kind of impressive dirt devil there

As a want to be firefighter. I love these videos because it helps me understand what to expect if I do go to collage for fire science. You guys are true hero’s. Thank you. 🙏🏻
